Dear Parent; The Stockton R-1 School District has been notified by the Cedar County Health Department (CCHD) that some of our students have had confirmed exposure to the mumps from a nearby community. According to information from the CCHD the incubation period of mumps is 16 to 18 days. The initial symptoms are flu-like including body aches, lack of appetite, headache, and low-grade fever. Mumps is generally characterized by swelling of one or more salivary glands, usually the parotid glands. If you feel your child has symptoms, please seek a medical evaluation from your physician. We have policies and guidelines that we must follow in such a situation. Please understand that we are NOT TO THE OUTBREAK STATUS. This letter is to inform everyone of the exposure and what will happen if an outbreak occurs. As per district Regulation 2850, In the event of an outbreak, students who are exempt from immunizations for any reason will be excluded from school for their own protection and that of other students, in accordance with State Rule 13 CSR 50-101.0412. The only exception will be students exempted by a physician because they have already had the disease and have available laboratory confirmation of immunity. We realize this is concerning for everyone in the community. If you have questions or concerns, please call either my office or school nurse, Karen Collins. If you are unsure of the status of your child’s immunization records, please call Karen Collins at 417-276-5143 ext. 222. She can update you on what we have on file for your child. We will monitor student health and be in contact with the Cedar County Health Department. If we receive additional information, we will forward it you parents as soon as possible. Check our website and Facebook page for information. Sincerely, Shannon D. Snow Superintendent
